Students must first enroll and be accepted to study at a Canadian educational institution before they may apply for a Canada Student Visa (study permit). Depending on their citizenship or place of residence, students may also require an eTA (electronic travel authorization) and/or a Temporary Resident Visa in addition to their study permit.

- Living costs in Canada for you and any accompanying family members, as well as
- Roundtrip airfare to Canada for you and any accompanying family members.
- You have to be a law-abiding person who has never been in trouble with the law and who poses no threat to Canada's security. You could be required to present a police clearance.
- You have to be well enough to undergo, if required, a medical examination.
- An immigration officer needs to be convinced that you intend to depart Canada at the conclusion of your permitted stay.
*If you want to enroll in a short-term course or program, you do not need a study permit to attend school in Canada.
